Enrollment closes on Feb. 12, Indian Education student services, and free support for tax preparation

The 2023-2024 enrollment window is open until Sunday, Feb. 12! If your child is entering middle or high school next year, or if you are interested in exploring other schools in the district, our 2023-2024 school year enrollment window is still open! To get help enrolling, come to our information session this Thursday, Feb. 9 from 6-7:30pm at Cornerstone Community Center (4122 W. 55th Pl.). Translation will be available. Sign up for Indian Education programming in 2023-2024. Our Indian Education team provides a range of services to Native American students in our district. For Native American students to access services in the 2023-2024 school year,  families need to complete a form this spring. You can complete the form online by clicking here or you can do it in-person at the Indian Education office (7635 E. 42nd Place) on Friday, Feb. 24 from 9am-5pm.

Look for a new weekly progress email covering your child’s grades and attendance! We want to support you with understanding your child’s academic progress and attendance. Starting this month, you will receive a student progress email every Wednesday with information about your child’s grades and attendance. This is not an official report card or transcript, it is an update that we encourage you to use for follow-up conversations with your child and their teachers.

This new weekly message will be automatically sent to the email address listed in PowerSchool. Click here to update your contact information. You can also log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal for more information about grades and class assignments. To gain access to the PowerSchool Parent Portal, contact your child’s school. If you already receive weekly updates from PowerSchool, you will continue to receive those updates.

If you have any questions about your child’s grades or attendance, please contact your child’s  teacher.

FREE tax preparation at the Parent Resource Center! The Parent Resource Center is partnering with VITA to provide free tax preparation services for families with an annual household income of $60,000 or less. VITA can also prepare tax returns for prior years and help you collect all of your Child Tax credits. Volunteers will be on site to help families sign up for  free internet services, SNAP assistance, and Medicare. Tax services are provided at the Parent Resource Center (525 E. 46th St. N.) by appointment only. Click here to schedule.

Get free breakfast while learning about the importance of appreciation! On Monday, Feb. 13 and Feb. 27 from 9-10am, Family and Children’s Services will hold two free sessions on the importance of appreciation at the Parent Resource Center (525 E. 46th St. N.). Attendees will talk about managing stress and explore the importance of sharing appreciation for all who impact and support us in our daily lives.  Call 918-746-9676 or 918-746-9665 for more information.

Virtual Parent Resource Night on the topic “Math Matters”. Math concepts are all around us every day! Join this free session with your children on Thursday, Feb. 16 from 6-7:30pm and learn fun new ways to practice math with your student throughout each day. Speakers will engage students and parents together in math activities using fun learning experiences and games. This virtual event is open to parents with children ages pre-K through 12th grade. Please register online as soon as possible.

Get help completing your FAFSA so you can get free money for college or trade school! FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and completing one is the most important thing you can do to get free money for college or advanced job training. Every high school senior should complete one! Join us at one of our FAFSA event for one-on-one help with your application:

  • Thursday, Feb. 16 from 4:30-7:30 pm at Martin Regional Library (2601 S. Garnett Rd.).
  • Saturday, Feb. 18 from 11am-2pm at Hicks Park Community Center (3443 S. Mingo).
  • Saturday, Feb. 25 from 11am-2pm at Wilson Teaching & Learning Academy (2710 E. 11th St.).
  • Thursday, March 2 from 4:30-7:30pm at Parent Resource Center (525 E. 46th St. N).

Rising 9th grade students can earn a degree and graduate early! Students entering 9th grade in the 2023-2024 school year can apply for a spot in the EDGE (Earn a Degree, Graduate Early) program at McLain High School or Memorial High School. Through EDGE, students can graduate high school with a high school diploma and an associate’s degree free of charge!

EDGE students get the support they need to succeed in college with extra tutoring, monthly events with classmates, study sessions, and a chance to experience what it’s like to learn and grow in a college setting. You can click here to submit an application, and the deadline is Sunday, Feb. 12.
