Katie Rich has been selected as the 2024-2025 Webster Middle School Support Professional of the Year!
This is Katie's fourth year at Webster. She started as a long-term substitute before she moved into the principal's secretary position three years ago. This is also her second year as the girls high school basketball assistant coach.
We asked Katie a few questions to learn more about her and her time at Tulsa Public Schools.
What does a typical day look like for you?
As the principal's secretary, my day is never the same. I do all the behind-the-scenes work to make sure that everyone in and out of the building has a smooth day, almost like the Great Wizard of Oz!
Why did you want to work in education?
I never thought I would work in education. During COVID, I decided to quit my job as a visual merchandiser of 13 years and stay at home with my kids to help them with adjusting to the chaos of COVID. When we started back at school, I thought I would try my hand at subbing because it gave me an open schedule and could still be available to my kids. I loved the students and staff at Webster and just knew that this was where I was supposed to be.
Can you tell us a a bit about your time at TPS?
I have loved every minute at Tulsa Public Schools. I interact with different people all day every day, district level, school level, and students and everyone is beyond helpful. This is an amazing team, and we are all here for the same reason, our amazing students!
What are you passionate about outside of work?
I love traveling with my family.
Is there anything else you would like everyone to know?
We may be small, but we are mighty. West side is the best side!
