Taylor Harper has been selected as the 2024-2025 Webster Middle School Teacher of the Year!
This is Taylor's third year at Tulsa Public Schools and her second year teaching math at Webster. We asked her a few questions to learn learn more about her and her time at Tulsa Public Schools.
Why did you choose education?
I loved learning and school as a child. Coming from a similar background as many of my students, I want to inspire them to use education to improve their lives. Higher education doesn’t always seem possible when your family struggles with basic necessities. I was able to graduate college debt-free, which changed my life, and I hope to show my students that effort in education can open doors for them too.
What do you enjoy most about working at TPS?
Building relationships with my students. They all hold a special place in my heart. Even in just three years, I’ve taught over 700 students, and knowing I get to be a positive influence in their lives is something I will always cherish.
What’s something you’re passionate about outside of teaching?
Self-care. As an educator, it’s important to take time for yourself and learn to turn off your "school brain." When you take care of yourself, you show up better for others.
Is there anything else you’d like people to know?
I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of the amazing City Year team and mentors through Tulsa Teacher Corps. Both programs have pushed me to create the best learning environment for my students.
